Privacy policy
Baruch is a handwritten note-taking app made by CSS Southern ("we", "us"). This page explains what happens to your information when you use it. The short version: we collect nothing about you.
What we collect
Nothing. Baruch has no user accounts with us, and it does not contain advertising, analytics, or trackers. We do not run a server that receives your notes, your handwriting, your files, or information about how you use the app. We cannot see your notes.
Where your notes are kept
Your notes are stored on your own device, in the app's private storage on Android and in your Documents folder on Windows. They are not encrypted by Baruch, so protect your device with a screen lock. Any backup file you save is a file you control and store wherever you choose.
Optional: Google Drive backup
If you choose to connect Google Drive, Baruch asks Google for one permission, drive.file. It lets Baruch see and change only the files and folders Baruch itself created, in a folder named "Baruch" in your Drive. It cannot see any of your other Drive files.
- Notes travel directly between your device and your Google Drive. They do not pass through any server of ours.
- You sign in on Google's own screen. Baruch never sees your Google password.
- On Windows, the sign-in token is stored in the operating system's protected credential storage. On Android, Google Play services holds the permission.
- You can disconnect at any time in Baruch (Accounts & backup → Disconnect), which also withdraws the permission. You can also remove it at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Notes already in your Drive stay there until you delete them.
Baruch's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Handwriting-to-text
On Android, converting handwriting to typed text uses Google ML Kit running on your device. Your handwriting is not sent anywhere to be recognised. The first time you use it, the app downloads a language model from Google; that download does not include your notes.
Other services
If we later add other backup services (such as Microsoft OneDrive), they will work the same way: only with your sign-in, only for Baruch's own folder, and directly between your device and that service. We will update this page before that happens.
Children
Baruch is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Deleting your data
We hold none, so there is nothing for us to delete. To remove your notes, delete them in the app or uninstall it. To remove copies in Google Drive, delete the "Baruch" folder there.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and describe what changed.
